School-wide Survey - Who is the Teacher Against Discrimination?

„What’s going on here?“ That’s probably what some of you were thinking. Students from grades 7-9 went through ALL the classes of IGS Badenstedt and took the other students with them—all the way to the teacher’s lounge: Everyone should participate in the survey. But from the beginning: Together with two very nice teachers, we were allowed to work with the school’s focus group on a total of three workshop days in spring 2024 on the topic of respect and against discrimination. It was exciting and a lot of fun! And a lot happened! On the second day, a large group of members from the student council (SV) visited us, and even the school administration was there. Together, we discussed what problems with discrimination exist at the school and what could be done about them. You then decided what would be the most sensible next step for the school: You wanted to nominate a teacher as a contact person against discrimination and have a complaint box. Then, on the third day, there was the survey, which you handled almost professionally: Divided into groups, you brought all the students from the classes, took them to the tables in front of the teacher’s lounge, and everyone was allowed to write down which teacher they thought would be the best contact person against discrimination. The slips were collected in a mailbox, which will also serve as your complaint box in the future. In the meantime, we also developed a guide with you on what else can be done about discrimination. Wow! That was great working with you! Now we are excited to see what happens next…
